AVN.- Last Monday night were seized over 2.6 tons of pork that had been purchased by the State for poor sectors of the country and were instead being sold at speculative prices in private restaurants in eastern Caracas, informed Food minister Felix Osorio.
Six people have been arrested for their alleged connection to the event, in which were involved restaurants El Junquito Campestre, Yovara and Ferro's, said Osorio to a local TV station.
An inspection was carried out by government authorities in the small hours of Monday, due to claims filed by customers. Health Ministry found out as well that items sold at Ferro's were not suitable for human consumption.
Venezuelan Institute for the Defense of People to Access Goods and Services (Indepabis) and National Superintendency of Agricultural Silos, Warehouses, and Depots (SADA) respectively fined the restaurants with 3,000 tax units.
Minister Osorio commented there may be more people involved in the event and he added that Ferro's is going to be temporarily closed for further investigation due to unhealthiness problems.
